This is such a fun mystery! Emma leaves her husband and starts a new life as a high school English at Thomas Jefferson High School in Pinewood Colorado. Her first day leads us to all the quirky characters that appear in the book. Some are your typical old school high school teachers but some are a twist on new age teachers. The characters are fun, funny and complete characters in every sense of the word.
Emma quickly befriends a fellow lit teacher and their personalities mix perfectly. Both love the English language and quote Shakespeare lines that fit every single scene. Leslie is the tall pretty blonde teacher and she seems to know everything about everyone at Thomas Jefferson High.
I gave this book 4 coffees.
This book was a super fun read. There were twists, turns and surprises that I never saw coming. The writing was great and I loved the ‘English lit’ chatter… maybe because I was an English lit major but I still found it fun! I really enjoyed the main characters, Emma and Leslie. They mixed perfectly and made for a fun ‘who done it’ mystery to figure out just who it was that killed the janitor, Melvin.
What I Loved:
-I loved all the different characters and their very unique quirks. Kelley didn’t miss a thing when writing these characters and some may have even reminded me of some of MY old high school teachers (which was a LONG time ago).
-The surprises!! Just when you think you’ve figured something out another twist pops up. I love that in cozies.
-That she nailed the ‘gym/coach teachers’ & the ‘weird old teacher that’s been teaching for 150 years’.
What I didn’t Love:
-It had a bit of a slow start for me, but it picked up quickly.
-That this is Kelley’s first book and I have to wait for another! lol
What I thought of the Cover:
-The cover is great, very cozy mystery and very fitting of the story.
If you’re a cozy mystery lover you’ll love this book. It’s filled to the brim with details, surprises and LOL moments. I read it in a night and enjoyed every minute. It’s a great first book for a great new author and I look forward to her next release.
Buy this book and send Kelley over an email letting her know how much you loved it!! Because I’ve no doubt that you will. And don’t forget to review it on Amazon! You’ll flip through the pages faster than you thought possible and you won’t be disappointed with the twist at the end either.
