Sleepless in Manhattan

Genre: Chick Lit
Step aside Candace Bushnell, Sarah Morgan is here! Seriously folks, if you love Candace as much as I do, you’re going to ADORE this series. I read it in one night and now I NEED to buy the other 2 in the trio.
Paige, Frankie and Eva are long time best friends, we’re talking – since they were 6 years old. They grew up together, they live together and they all work together. That’s a lot of together but it works for them. Matt & Jake are the two that complete the circle, Matt being Paige’s brother and Jake being Matt’s lifelong best friend. The 5 of them together make a great story.
This story centers around Paige, and she’s had quite the life. She’s gorgeous, insecure at times and talented. She’s loved Jake for as long as she can remember but after heartbreak she never allows herself to be close to him, or is it the other way around. There is so much mystery with these two.
The first few chapters I had a hard time seeing Paige as the leader/center of their group. She seemed too insecure and almost too quiet to be the queen bee. But the more the story progressed the more I started to see it. Sarah throws in so many bits of great back story to each of the characters, that you want to keep reading to see what happens.
I love, love, LOVE Matt and Jake. They are great leading men, both in completely different ways. They’re gorgeous, manly men and you’ll definitely close the book having added these two to your book boyfriend list.
The book is steamy, that’s for sure. You all know I’m not one for sex scenes so yeah, I did kind of skip through the extra steamy parts. But without them, Sarah couldn’t have set up the romance like she did. By 25% into this book even I was feeling the chemistry between Paige and Jake. They are definitely a great potential couple,if they ever realize it.
What I Love:
-Manhattan/Brookly & New York. It has to be my favorite setting for a chick lit novel. Sarah did a great job with descriptions and voicing the love people have for NYC.
-All the main characters… they are so well written, fun, funny and real. You feel the emotions right with them.
-That this is a trio of books… it doesn’t end after book 1! Yay!
-The writing, Sarah is a fantastic writer and story teller.
What I didn’t Love:
-That I don’t yet have book 2 and 3! (I will though).
What I thought of the Cover:
The US Cover (above) is cute but on this series (most books actually) I absolutely ADORE the UK cover (below). I’ll never understand why our US covers aren’t as great as the UK covers… it’s just no fair. The covers are true to genre and story (especially the UK one!) Seriously, these are covers I’d frame!
Buy this series and yup, you guessed it, buy a second set for your book freezer in case your house ever burns down. I loved it that much. I’ll admit I haven’t read any Candace Bushnell in awhile but this reminded me SO much of Lipstick Jungle.
I would be thrilled if this was made into a movie or TV series. It has great potential that’s for sure. Each book focuses on one of the girls’ life. Sarah sets up the next two books early in this one, so now I’m dying to know what happens!
I fell in love with the characters and their stories and I literally can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book. Make sure you read this one if you’re a fan of chick lit and/or romantic comedy. You won’t be disappointed.
