Book Review – Novelista Girl

Novelista Girl by Meredith Schorr

My Review:

I just love Meredith Schorr.  Novelista Girl is the second book in the Blogger Girl Series.  I reviewed The Blogger Girl here.

Kimberly Long is the perfect main character for a Chick Lit series.  She’s fun, funny, irritated and at times a tad bitchy.  I love her and I love her interactions with her friends, her boss, her boyfriend and her enemies.  Meredith creates a world where not only does Kimberly have ‘almost’ everything she wants but she also has ‘frenemies’ who you don’t hate!  Their interactions are hilarious and so true to life.

Kimberly is a Chick Lit Book Blogger (maybe that’s why I love her so) and she’s desperately trying to publish her own Chick Lit novel (another similarity that made me love this series) and she doesn’t believe Chick Lit is dead (heck no it’s not!).  The realism that Meredith has written into the book concerning the sentence before this is nothing short of perfection.  Clearly Meredith writes a bit from what she’s seen in the Chick Lit publishing world and I for one love that.  It makes the whole book so incredibly realistic.

I gave this book 5+ coffees – aka ‘Hells to the Yeah’
Untitled design (10)

The book is definitely not short of a dream boyfriend either.  Nicholas is a hot lawyer and definitely Kimmy’s dream guy.  He brings in a whole host of issues to the story that affect Kim as well.  I love how the two of them react to different scenarios, it’s never boring and at times is laugh out loud funny.

I can honestly say that Meredith has become one of my favorite Chick Lit authors just from this series alone (her other books are fab too though).  This series brings back the Chick Lit from 10 years ago and reminds me why I fell in love with it to begin with it.  I can see Meredith falling in line with the other greats of the Chick Lit Author world and that makes my cold little heart burst with Chick Lit happiness!

I read this book in a matter of hours, ignoring my kids, pets and household duties

Both Novelista Girl and Blogger Girl made my top 10 of 2015 so if you haven’t read them yet, what are you waiting for?!

What I Loved:

-Kimberly, Nicholas, Hannah and all of the characters bring such fun into this book.  Whether the relationship be romance or a love/hate you’ll want to read until your family is whining for dinner at 11pm.
-You want to see Kimberly succeed with publishing her book!  I was rooting for her since Book 1 but Book 2 really made me cheer her along.  I never want to see Chick Lit die!
-Nicholas is a dream book boyfriend and you definitely won’t be disappointed in him.
-I laughed and I can honestly say I may or may not (lol) have cried!  I just love these characters

What I didn’t Love:

-ugh.. I don’t want the series to be over!  I want another one! lol

What I thought of the cover:

-I love this cover.  I may have been a tad honest with the Blogger Girl cover not being a fav of mine.  I’ve noticed a trend in Chick Lit moving towards realistic photo covers and I for one don’t love it.  The heart and soul of knowing  a chick lit from a regular ‘women’s fiction’ has always been the illustrated pastel covers and I LOVE that.
-This cover screams chick lit and I definitely would beeline to it in a bookstore.  Well done, Meredith!

My conclusion:

If you love chick lit you NEED to read these books.  If you are a book blogger or an aspiring chick lit author, you NEED to read these books.  I just can’t stress enough how amazing this story is and how much I loved these!  These are books I will buy in paperback just to add to my collection with all the other great chick lit writers.

Meredith is a fabulous writer and really sucks you into the story within the first few chapters.  Her books are perfect if you want to avoid the general public and/or your household work or job just to finish them.  You end them with a happy heart and a need for more.

Seriously, why are you even still reading this… go buy her books!

If you’ve read this series I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

About the Author:

Meredith Schorr

A born and bred New Yorker, Meredith Schorr discovered her passion for writing when she began to enjoy drafting work-related emails way more than she was probably supposed to. After trying her hand penning children’s stories and blogging her personal experiences, Meredith found her calling writing chick lit and contemporary women’s fiction. She secures much inspiration from her day job as a hard-working trademark paralegal and her still single (but looking) status. Meredith is also the co-founder of BookBuzz, a live author/reader event held annually. She is a loyal New York Yankees fan and an avid runner. How Do You Know? is her fourth novel.

I have to agree with you about the covers. And, you can judge a book by its cover (in my opinion).
