How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie
By Author Gina Henning
Lauren Hauser has it all…nearly. With a shiny new job and sparkly new engagement ring on her finger, the only thing she’s missing is her gorgeous new fiancé by her side. Should she be worried? Jack’s kisses are as sizzling as always and, sure, long distance is hard but, she and Jack are solid, right?
Of course the stress of planning a wedding—or not—is nothing compared to the stress of baking an apple pie. Because it’s not just any apple pie that Lauren must bake for the 4th of July contest; it’s her grandmother’s famous, award-winning apple pie! Yet Lauren is determined to make this pie her own and a little apple pie should be no problem for the Hauser clan dessert queen…!
But with her new job taking up so much time, a prize pie to perfect and the growing distance between her and Jack, Lauren begins to wonder if she can really have it all… Only one thing is for sure, there’ll be fireworks this 4th of July!
The Home for the Holidays series:
Book 1 – How to Bake the Perfect Pecan Pie
Book 2 – How to Bake the Perfect Christmas Cake
Book 3 – How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie
Book 4 – How to Bake the Perfect Wedding Cake
Apple Pie is not a pie that I love (in fact I don’t love much in the way of pies) but the apple pie Lauren wants to bake is dear to her heart. Her grandmother has prepped her to bake this absolutely perfect pie which is not so easy to perfect. Lauren is determined to bake it to her grandmother’s standards and more and then enter it into the fair. Lauren is a brave woman considering that baking is not exactly her strong point!
Lauren is in a relationship with Jack (love his name, the leading man in my WIP is named Jack!) Jack doesn’t seem to keen on the whole idea of setting a date for a wedding which is another burden on Lauren’s shoulders. Throw in a pain in the arse co-worker and Lauren has a complete nightmare on her hands.
I love Gina’s descriptions of food in this book! I don’t think one could read this without becoming hungry! I know that even though I don’t love pie I was trying to hide the urge to bake something after reading this! lol I could relate to Lauren in the ‘not a great cook’ are, as I too am not the most professional of chefs (that sounded better than I totally suck in the kitchen).
The book is an easy read, laugh out loud funny and can be read alone in the series. I haven’t rad the other books in the series, but I will now. I loved the complications from the long distance relationship to the new HR guy at work making Lauren’s life miserable. Lauren’s family members could have their own book series! I love that because in all honesty, who has a normal family?! anyone….?
What I Loved:
-Gina is a GREAT writer, very descriptive and funny.
-This book is light-hearted and with enough ‘irritating situations’ for me to consider it ‘chick lit’.
What I didn’t Love:
-I’m not a big chef so while I loved the other storylines the ‘cooking’ part lost me.
What I thought of the Cover:
-The cover is fitting with the series however I didn’t love it in a ‘chick lit’ sense. The likeliness of me picking it up based solely on the cover are slim to none.
Did I add a Book Boyfriend to my list from this book?
-Nope, not in this book. (stay tuned for this new feature in my upcoming blog posts!)
