The inspiration for ‘Where is Emma Butler’s Life Plan?’
By author Julia Wilmot
The premise for my book, ‘Where is Emma Butler’s Life Plan?’ is very simple. It is that before we are born we make a decision about what lessons and experiences we want to encounter in our next life and on that basis we make a life plan, ably assisted by a host of angelic beings whose role is then to help us stick to this plan once we a reborn. This is very necessary as we forget everything about our plan as we enter our new life. The point of this is that as we rest between lives we are aware of the areas that we need to develop to progress on our spiritual journey. Obviously this idea is predicated, at the very least, on the existence of reincarnation and guardian angels. For some people this may or may not be a subject of which they have been exposed to before, but it was an area that I felt I could have a lot of fun exploring and I’m told by a few friends who don’t hold any of these beliefs that it is still possible to enjoy my book even if you don’t go along with this world view.
Many years ago I read a very interesting book by a prominent American psychiatrist, Dr. Brian Weiss, called ‘Many lives, Many Masters.’ In this book Dr. Weiss recounts his experience of working with a young woman who was suffering badly from recurrent nightmares and chronic anxiety. When his usual treatment methods failed to bring about any improvement in her condition Dr. Weiss turned to hypnotherapy and under its influence the young woman began to recount past life experiences. But even more interesting was she didn’t just recount her past life experiences but also the experience of being in-between lives, what you might commonly call ‘dead.’ Dr. Weiss was initially very sceptical about what this young woman was telling him, but soon she was also passing messages from ‘the space between lives,’ which contained, amongst other things, revelations about his own life. I found this book thoroughly engrossing, all those years ago, and It must have planted a seed for ‘Where is Emma Butler’s Life Plan?’ I’ve gone on to read many other books on this subject and I’m sure that they have all contributed, to some extent, to the story that grew in my imagination.
My book however is a humorous take on the whole idea of reincarnation, life plans and angels and the angelic realms with some romance thrown in for good measure. In writing a book of fiction I really wanted to explore spiritual concepts but in a very easily accessible manner. This is also my plan in my future books. I think fiction can be a very useful, if a little unusual, way of introducing various spiritual and personal development concepts. There are so many ‘self-help’ books on the bookshelves but there are very few works of fiction that tackle the same issues. I am inspired to use the knowledge that I have gained over the years to weave interesting, entertaining and thought provoking ideas into a enjoyable read.
